I was finally able to photograph a political event. You could say a protest is somewhat 'political', because the views and opinions of the protestors have a meaning relevant to todays current affairs, whether it is about war, governement cuts or university fees. On the other hand, there are cases where a protest is led by a group of anarchists who want to wreak havoc for no apparant reason. In this case however, there were several small individual protests by people from all types of backgrounds. Some protestors were from the 'People's Assembly Against Austerity' group, demonstrating about the series of sustained reductions in public spending, intended to reduce the budget deficit. These cuts have affected the National Health Service, welfare, education, and other public institutions. So there is a strong reason for such protest. On the other hand there were a few young males dressed in fully black clothing, balaclavas and holding a black and red flag that represent anarchist communism also known as anarcho-communism/free communism. The flag represents a theory of anarchism which advocates the abolition of the state, capitalism, wages and private property. Here are just a few images from the protest on the 8th of July 2015.
